MTV Movie Awards 2013: Jamie Foxx 'just protecting our kids' with Trayvon Martin T-shirt

Prime example: the shirt worn by the Generation Award recipient at Sunday's (April 14) 2013 MTV Movie Awards. It featured a photo of 17-year-old shooting fatality Trayvon Martin, surrounded by smaller pictures of the youngsters whose lives were lost in last December's Sandy Hook school shootings in Newtown, Conn.
Maintaining on the red carpet that he didn't intend to make "a political statement" with his attire, Foxx -- accompanied by his "Django Unchained" leading lady, Kerry Washington -- mentioned that his 19-year-old daughter, Corinne, was with him at the MTV event and explained, "We're just prot
ecting our kids."
Whether Foxx still lets the shirt speak for itself when he accepts his Generation honor remains to be seen, but if he decides to keep his speech just to his history with the MTV Movie Awards, he'll still have plenty to discuss.

The ceremony recognized him right from the start of his acting career, with a 2000 nomination for breakthrough male performance as overnight football sensation Willie Beamen in director Oliver Stone's "Any Given Sunday."
That would be followed five years later by a best male performance nomination for the role that had earned Foxx an Oscar as best actor, legendary singer Ray Charles in "Ray." And he's up for the same MTV award again for his work for director Quentin Tarantino as the vengeful freed slave Django, having already won the "WTF" accolade for the film in tandem with Samuel L. Jackson. .
